Sept 22, 2011 I had a photo shoot with Amy Klewitz of Fem Bodiment. We walked around our neighbor hood, Greene Point, Brooklyn stopped and took photo' in front of anything we saw interesting. I'd say it was more of a hang out session and I just happened to be taking pictures, not to mention Amy lost her sandals that day too -  haha. Here are some of the photos taken from that day.

The following day I was the photographer for Free Your Star Foundations' first scholarship winner SHEAN!  I didn't think my set could get any better after shooting with Amy, but Shean and his team proved me wrong. We all met at Rachael's place to get ready and get aquatinted. At first I was a little worried since it was pouring down rain, but about an hour before Shean and his team had arrived it started to ease up on us, and where theres a will theres a way!

I wrapped my camera up in 2 grocery bags and first stop was the backyard where we had a really nice brick textured wall. Shean was born to do this, from the minute I held my camera up he stuck a new pose with every photo I took. He even falls into poses! Our second stop was down by the water, where we had graffiti walls, fences, and of course the water! We ended the day with some jumping poses, and then had the whole group join in. It was a very fun day!! Enjoy the photo, both Amy and Shean will be there :)

Starving Artists Welcome!

Many of you have asked how much a ticket to Fem Bodiment is. We are simply asking for donations at the door, $20 would be great, but we don't discriminate against starving artists and students on a budget. So if you just have $1, $5 or $10 to give, we are grateful for that too! Every donation gets us closer to awarding another in-need student for spring semester 2012.

The evening is to celebrate our collective powers as a creative and philanthropic community - come toast your glass with us.

Thanks for your support!

Who wants to live in an "eh" world? Not us!!

Arts and music programs are  consistently the first budgets to be cut in our nations public school system. We expect our students to soak in eight hours of learning with very little creative outlet. And that is the key reason why Freedom Star programs' biggest strength is motivating students to learn English, Math, and History essentials through fashion.

Support the juxtaposition of art and education by donating to Free Your Star Foundation.  We hope you will join us to celebrate the art of fashion, photography, makeup and dance at Fem Bodiment.

Excited to meet you in person,

Sahar

My ring and my shoes...... all the armor I need

Tomorrow is my birthday, I will be 26 years old. As I reflect on the last year I am overcome with emotion. I have been so blessed in my life through the opportunities that pass my way and most importantly the amazing people in my life.

Friday Jason, my talented boyfriend gave me this beautiful ring. SIlver threads twist and mesh creating the abstract sparkle upon my finger. It reminds me of so many different things; a wing, a wave, a leaf but no matter the day it represents the love and support we share. Pulling out the little brown box tided with a simple blue cord he said 'I want you to have this, not only the ring but the promise that I will love you for the rest of my life. You're mine and I will never let you go.'

Yesterday Sahar, my soul sister took me shoe shopping. No matter the occasion, the weather or whatever kind of mood we are in it is always a ritual to be enjoyed and cherished. Falling in love and starting a new romance every time, feeling the full potential of my beauty and strength as I slip on a pair that fit just right. The love of the day yesterday was a pair of simple black wedges. A bit more modest then what i normally go for, but not plain by any means. The opening reflects the curve and point of my new ring and the slight conflict of the polished finish verse the unfinished edges. A direct reflection of my personality the responsible grown up and the kid inside.

As I go into my 26th year of life I proudly wear my ring and shoes given to me by two of the most important people in my life. All the armor I need to take on the fierce city that is New York.

Polishing Their Armor

Rachael, Amy and Sahar are women with a certain appreciation for their daily armor - their shoes, dresses and lipstick translate into the woman they have to be that day. Wearing many hats is nothing new to this trio - one of the most stylish acts is their love for mentoring urban youth and empowering their sisters - womankind.

Who says giving back isn't chic?

What this event means to me...

A chance to embrace women as small business owners and entrepreneurs in fields where they are still under represented and under supported.

To inform people about the possibilities in the Beauty industry.

To expose New Yorkers to organizations that supports women entrepreneurs in the arts.

FemBodiment Supports Up n' Comers

Born and Raised in Southern California, or as others would say the adventurous Los Angeles. I will be graduated from Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara with the concentration in commercial photography. During my last session at Brooks I decided to pursue an internship in New York for school credit, where I stumbled upon Rachael Inman. From the first meeting we had, I knew I had made the right decision in coming out here, and have met the most amazing friend and mentor I could ever ask for.

Life can be so fast, that sometimes you forget to just stop and take a look around you, and being from California sometimes it doesn’t hit me that I’m in New York. People ask what “type” of photography I do… but how can I really answer that? I love to take pictures of everything whether it be the dinner I’m cooking for my family and friends, or the sunset at the beach, or models with their hair and
make-up done so extreme you would never see someone look like that on the street.

I’m a photographer, I take pictures of people and things that inspire me, and find beauty in. My eyes are my career, and my camera is the tool I use to capture how I see things in this world. Memories are my best friend, and I promise I will try to capture as many as possible. I love to learn and experience new things. I hope that both myself, and my work will inspire others all over the world. If I can do that... then I know it’s all worth it in the end. I am blessed to be apart of this experience surrounded by strong independent women. They are an inspiration to not only me, but also many others around them. No words can express my gratitude to be amongst these ladies everyday and especially the evening of FemBodiment.
