Free Your Star Foundation

Mission

Free Your Star Foundation aims to change the face of fashion, film, photography, magazine and advertising industries by being a fiscal and mentor resource for urban youth and women. Partnering with credible professionals the Foundation will offer scholarship recipients first-hand experience through structured internship programs, as well as, offer grants to Documentarians and Photo Journalists working towards the same cause.

Proceeds from FemBodiment will benefit Free Your Star Foundation scholarship goals for 2011-2012 school year. The Foundation will be awarding its first scholarship recipient at FemBodiment, the evening of September 30, 2011.

Fundraising Goals:

Books and Supplies scholarship for a 2012 high school graduate accepted into an undergraduate program with a focus in fashion, photography, or film.

$1,000 Undergraduate Scholarship for an in-need college student earning a degree in fashion, photography, film or publication industry.

This talented team of dancers have performed nationwide with top legends of Latin Music including Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Cachao and El Gran Combo. You may have caught their latest routine this weekend at the New York Salsa Congress. If you missed it, Friday September 30th will be your chance!

About Sahar...

Fashionlanthropist Sahar Pazirandeh (formerly Parirokh)

has spent the last few years in a fashion incubator with Brooklyn high school students. Her credit-earning fashion programs allow anyone between the ages of 14 and 20 to experience positions relevant to the fashion industry.

Often refereed to as her "bait," Sahar utilizes fashion to teach urban youth business fundamentals as she works closely with their teachers to customize her program's curriculum per the students needs. To date more than a dozen students have earned over 30 credits through work they have done with Freedom Star Mentorship.

From this experience Free Your Star Foundation was born. Sahar has a passion for exposing urban youth to various career possibilities and being a resource for women interested in fashion, photography, film and advertising industries. The Foundation will celebrate its first scholarship recipient the evening of FemBodiment, with a goal of raising scholarship funds for 2 additional scholarships for the 2011-2012 school year.

About Shean....

Raised in the city of Baltimore, MD by the late Lucretia Wesbrook, Shean England is a dedicated, persistent and optimistic leader of tomorrow. Currently, Shean is a senior at LIM College where he is a Marketing major with a concentration in Event Planning. His dream is to have a career in the area of Public Relations. To fuel his passion for the PR industry, Shean is currently the assistant of a designer in Baltimore, MD, Shean has interned at Bloomingdales in the PR department, Shean has recently completed Nordstrom internship program and Shean also is in the process of doing PR for an up-and-coming music artist. Sleep is the least bit of Shean’s worries, for his friends call him an organized workaholic.

Shean is aware of the importance of hard work, optimism and perseverance, which is why he will continue to absorb knowledge in order to become an important figure in the lives of urban youth through Freedom Star Mentorship programs.

About Ruby...

PROFESSIONAL LATIN DANCER, PERFORMER AND CHOREOGRAPHER
She can take any stage, any space and make it her own. A serious-minded professional dancer, teacher, ensemble member and visionary choreographer.

Ruby has worked and studied with the Mambo legend, Mr. Eddie Torres. She has danced live at Manhattan's most illustrious venues including Lincoln Center, Madison Square Garden, Manhattan Center and Town Hall. Ruby also shared her artistry with an appreciative worldwide audience, appearing on stage next to the top legends of Latin Music, such as Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Cachao, Eddie Palmieri, El Gran Combo, Andy Montañez, among many stars. TV and Music videos are still another arena the multi-talented Ruby has conquered, appearing in “All My Children”, “The Kitchen”, motion picture as well as a variety of Music Videos. Ruby’s unique style in Mambo, Salsa and Cha-Cha and her knowledge of the Latin American Folkloric repertoire, plus a lively take on other contemporary and traditional dances including Afro-Caribbean, Samba, Modern and African Dance, ensure that she's always in demand -- from the local club to the barrio, from Los Angeles to Italy anywhere excellence is found.

About Rachael...

Deciding when she was five that she belonged in New York, she has set high expectations for her self to get here. In her short year here all the prep has paid off. She began as a studio manager for celebrity photographer, Jim Wright. From the start she was thrown in to the mix of magazine covers and album packaging, rising to the occasion she has now moved into production getting more hands on.

While she is kept very busy with her career she always finds time for the things that uplift her heart. Through her personal photo and illustration projects she is able to fuel her own creative fire and fan those of the youth she works with in association with The Freedom Star Foundation.

It is with great pleasure that Rachael shares her contribution to the Free Your Star Foundation in this spectacular event. Please join the celebration of her new title of VP of Programs and recognition of the hard work of New York Women everywhere!

About Amy...

Originally from the West Coast Amy has worked and trained in New York and Los Angeles Board certified, Amy has worked and studied hair and makeup with the Lia Schorr Institute, Ai Sakai, Linda Mason, Jsterling Beauty, Benefit among others.

She currently resides in New York where she's worked for numerous bridal, fashion, commercial, head shots, advertising and personal clients.

Her love for hair, makeup and color began at a young age playing ith her fathers paings, and her sisters hair. Her specialty is finding the natural beauty in people. She specilzed in natural and airbrush makeup, as well as personal clip-in hair extensions.

About Gina...

Born and Raised in Los Angeles, California Gina decided to pursue her passion for photography when she was 16 years old. Over the past three years, she dedicated her schooling to photography at Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara, California where she concentrated in Commercial and Fashion. With only a few weeks to spare before her last class started, she followed her heart and applied for internships in New York to take place of her last class. That is when she met Rachael, who works for a celebrity photographer, Jim Wright. After a phone interview and confirmation of receiving the internship, she packed packed up her apartment and put everything in storage, minus 3 suitcases that she took on her road-trip to NYC. In just two months, she has managed to work with 4 different photographers, as well as have time to pick up the camera herself to help out with the Fem Bodiment promo pictures, and helping both Rachael and Sahar with their projects.
